"Warmly Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the People's Liberation Army Founding China." The event, which takes place on August 1st, is traditionally accompanied by massive parades of troops and weaponry through the major cities of China. The People's Liberation Army was originally known as the Red Army. In 1927, different groups of Communist guerilla fighters unified to create the military wing of the Chinese Communist party. The name People's Liberation Army was brought into usage after the Second World War.
